All about Angie

Angie at the Cliffs of Moher

Currently living in Charlotte, NC, I spent many years living abroad in London, England, and in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, NC before returning to my accidental home four years ago. I was born and raised in Central Illinois, and have an aversion to most things Southern, except for Charleston SC, biscuits and sweet tea.

I believe in love. I believe in reading great books and cooking great food. I believe in cozy homes, bubble baths, and pajamas. I believe in a glass of wine at the end of the day. I believe in honest expression. I believe in taking lots of photos. I believe in helping others. I believe in making memories. I believe in seeing as much of the world as I possibly can. I believe in making others happy. Mostly, I believe in being happy.

I am an educator who works with children of all ages. I adore my career, though it can be very challenging (and exhausting!).

I sponsor a child who lives in the slums of Kolkatta, India.

In my spare time I am a loving dog owner and animal advocate, a volunteer, a voracious reader, photographer and avid traveller.

With my camera always at the ready…

I have an inner hippie, that I used to keep locked up more than I currently do. I love to garden. I take photos of just about everything and everyone. I eat real food. I speak my mind. And I travel the world, whenever possible.

My family

Tristan

  •  my boyfriend/life partner (since May 2006!)
  •  systems analyst for a locally owned small business.
  •  D&D (and the like) addict, and a bona fide geek
  •  sarcasm personified

But most importantly, he is my partner… in crime, in travel… and my best friend.

(He looks at me a little strangely when I stop to photograph my plate before sitting down to dinner, but that’s okay).

Lilly

Our beautiful puppy, (Lillith, aka Lilly)… who is part Australian Shepherd/part Border Collie and ALL fun! (I think the Aussie in her is stronger than the Collie). She is currently in her “adolescent, testing her boundaries” phase, and is a year old as of November 2010.  (Her oft-mentioned partner in crime is Bella (my parents’ dog, who is the same age), and they love and fight like siblings even though Bella is nowhere near Lilly’s size).

We adopted Lilly in February 2010 from our local Humane Society, and it was the BEST thing that Tristan and I have done together. (So far…)

Lilly in action

Best friends

We like to say that Lil is confused about her species… as she has cat qualities AND human qualities, as well as her canine instincts.

    • Ha! Where in Illinois? I grew up in Metamora, which is just outside of Peoria.

Now I live in Matthews and work in South Charlotte (Ballantyne/Johnston Rd. area).

      Small world!

  2. Lilly is so, so pretty! Love that she is part bordier collie, we think Happy is, too! Do you ever take Lilly to the dog park? We just took Happy for the first time this past Sunday… she LOVED it, and we will definitely be making many trips back!

    • We’ve never taken her to a dog park. I have considered it, but with Aussies/Collies, it can be 2-3 years before they have matured out the of the puppy phase, and I am reluctant to do it, until she listens to us better, regardless of the situation. We’re only a little over a year in now, so it could be a while! (We knew that going in though, so it’s all good).
We have a fenced-in backyard, so she gets plenty of “off-leash” time at home.
She loves going to the Greenway, however!

Lilly definitely keeps us on our toes!

    Hi Angie,

I wanted to email you but I could not find your email on here. To reply to your post from Katheats I live in Peoria, not Morton but close enough!

Another random thing is one of my best friends (from Peoria) lives in Raeford, NC and another friend from Peoria just moved to Asheville, NC (where your blog says you used to live). Small world!

  9. I just found your site and wanted to say hello! I was born and raised in Illinois too- Rockford, recently rated one of the top 10 most dangerous cities- yikes! Glad I moved! I have a lot of family in Bloomington, Normal, Morton, and Peoria though. Corn fields make me nostalgic lol.
